GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 9, 2018) – Kate Goodwin shot an even-par 72 on Monday to lead a shorthanded Oklahoma Christian women’s golf team Monday in the opening round of Western New Mexico’s Mustang Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club.

Goodwin, a junior from Tulsa, posted three birdies and was in a tie for ninth in the 104-woman field, four shots behind the leader, Evelyn Arguelles of Dallas Baptist (Texas). It was Goodwin’s fourth round at even par or better during the 2017-18 campaign and her second in as many tournaments.

Playing without its usual No. 1 player, sophomore Abigail Rigsby – who sat out due to injury – OC posted a team score of 310 and were in 14th place among the 20 squads in the field. Dallas Baptist led the tournament with an opening-round score of 282.

Two Lady Eagles each posted a 79 on the 5,900-yard course – junior Elizabeth Freeman and freshman Felicity Wittenberg, with Wittenberg posting a pair of birdies along the way. They were tied for 59th individually. Freshman Shaley Goad shot an 80 and was tied for 66th.

The final round will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Central time.
