Hearne, Hudelson, Bryan lead OGA Mid-Amateur field

Mike Hearne, Kyle Hudelson and Phillip Bryan each shot rounds of 2-under 70 on a blazing hot Monday to share the lead in the Oklahoma Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at Quail Creek Golf & Country Club in Oklahoma City.

The fourth player to shoot under par was Gerod Black of Edmond at 1-under 71. Six players shot even-par 72 including JR Hurley, Brett Green, Stan Faundree, Trent Mewbourn, Ben Klaus and Bryce Newton.

Hearne was an outstanding collegian at Southern Nazarene. Bryan played and coached at the University of Oklahoma. Hudelso, who played collegiate golf at Oklahoma Christian, is a two-time champion of this event, having won it in 2019 at Twin Hills Country Club in Oklahoma City and 2020 also at Quail Creek.

The OGA’s Women’s Stroke Play Championship is taking place at Quail Creek as well. Avery Blake of The Woodlands, Texas, built a three-shot lead in the first round with a 1-over 73. Kate Strickland and Brooklyn Benn, both of Edmond, are next at 76.
