Herman returns with 4-under round and top seed in WOGA State Amateur
The last time we saw Lisa Herman compete on a local level, she was winning the Class 6A state championship for Jenks as a freshman by 10 shots, leading Jenks to a 54-shot win over Edmond North.
It’s been mostly a national schedule for the California native since. But there she was Monday in the qualifying round of the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship, shooting 4-under-par 68 at Indian Springs Country Club to earn the No. 1 seed in match play beginning Tuesday.
There is extra incentive for Herman to play in this event, as the winner earns an automatic berth in the upcoming U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. But Herman has also told Jenks girls coach Audra Smalley that she intends to rejoin the team for her senior year, automatically lifting Jenks into the favored spot.
The only other round under par Monday was a 1-under 71 by University of Tulsa senior Jenni Roller. Allie Justiz of Edmond, Jaiden Gregston of Duncan and Peyton Coburn of Tulsa each shot even-par 72.
Defending champion Natalie Blonien of Altus shot 2-over 74 and was tied with Lucy Darr of Stillwater. Reagan Chaney of Ardmore and Sophia Lefler of Jenks are another shot back at 3-over 75.
Herman, Roller, Justiz and First and second rounds of match play will be held Tuesday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals Wednesday and the championship match early Thursday. Live scoring will be available on the WOGA site and check back here for full coverage.
