Hybl shoots 64 in U.S. Amateur qualifier, finishes seventh

University of Oklahoma golf coach Ryan Hybl shot the lowest score of any contestant with an 8-under 64 in a qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship Wednesday at Firekeeper Golf Course near Topeka, Kan.

Hybl led the field going into the second round, but shot a 79 and dropped from first to seventh place. Oklahoma State golfer Bo Jin finished at 2-under 142 and earned the second alternate spot.

Hybl, a former All-America golfer at the University of Georgia, shot 36 on the front nine of his second round Wednesday, but was derailed by a nine on the par-4 10th hole in the second round. He made two eagles and four birdies in his opening round Tuesday, including an eagle on the 445-yard par-4 18th hole.

The Oklahoma qualifier for the U.S. Amateur is Monday at Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond.
