Kamas, Chaney lead way as OCU stomps field in Sydney Cox Invitational
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University, the top-ranked team in NAIA women’s golf, holds a 30-stroke lead over third-ranked Texas Wesleyan University after 36 holes of play at the Sydney Cox Invitational at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Stars carded a 16-under-par 560 in today’s action on the par-72 course with Texas Wesleyan finishing at 590 strokes. OCU’s Blue Team checked in at 595 to place third in a field of six teams.
All five OCU golfers finished in the top six Monday. Freshman Maddi Kamas is in first place at 8-under par (66-70–136) with freshman Reagan Chaney placing second at 5-under par (68-71–139).
Senior Lauren Behnken is tied for third at 2 under (72-70–142), and senior Natalie Gough (75-70–145) and freshman Paige Wood (73-72–145) are tied for sixth place at 1 over par.
Kamas and Behnken finished with nine birdies apiece while Chaney finished with eight and Wood with seven. Gough finished with a team-high 29 pars. Kamas recorded an eagle on the par-5, 500-yard 13th hole in the first round.
Freshman Jamie Welsh had the best outing for the Blue Team, tying for sixth place at one over par (76-69–145). Senior Rachel Eckert is in 11th place (75-72–147), freshman Morgan Palermo in 14th place (74-77–151) and freshman Meghan Charles in 15th place (74-78–152). Welsh finished with eight birdies for the day.
The final round of the Sydney Cox Invitational will be played on Tuesday morning.
