Kamas takes lead in WOGA Stroke Play Championship at The Greens
Maddi Kamas celebrated being named the NAIA Golfer of the Year last week with an opening 72 in WOGA Stroke Play Championship at The Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City Monday, good for a three-shot lead over Janet Miller.
Miller does lead the Mid-Amateur version of the championship, in which golfers over 25 can sign up for both events. Five of the top 10 in championship flight are also playing as mid amateurs and 18 of the 33 who entered are mid-ams, with only 15 players in championship flight that are not mid-ams.
Miller shot 75, followed by Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame Leeann Fairlie with a 76. ShaeBug Scarberry shot 77, followed by Michaela Dierinzo at 78.
Kamas, from Kingfisher, is going into her third season at Oklahoma City University.
The final round of the 36-hole event is Tuesday.
