A new Oak Tree Gang is becoming a reality. Six members of the iconic Edmond club Oak Tree National competed this weekend in the Web.com Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood, Fla., and three finished in the top 35.

Charlie Saxon and Taylor Moore tied for 17th at 13-under, 13 shots behind the 26-under effort of winner Mark Hubbard. Josh Creel tied for 35th at 10-under. Missing the cut were Rhein Gibson, Michael Gellerman and Nick Heinen.

On the PGA Tour, Talor Gooch is a member while Kevin Tway grew up playing at the club where his father Bob Tway was an original Oak Tree Gang member.

That grouping, which at one time consisted of successful PGA Tour members Tway, Gil Morgan, David Edwards, Danny Edwards, Scott Verplank, Doug Tewell, Mark Hayes and Willie Wood, still has Verplank and Wood competing on the Champions Tour. The new group has a long way to go to match their accomplishments but let’s give them some time.
