OCU leads field at San Antonio Shootout

SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma City University sits atop the 11-team field, including six ranked NAIA men’s golf teams, through the first two rounds of the San Antonio Shootout on Monday at the TPC San Antonio.

Oklahoma City, ranked tied for second, holds a six-stroke lead over No. 6 Wayland Baptist (Texas) and a 12-stroke margin above tenth-ranked Texas Wesleyan. The Stars’ Rupert Kaminski and Anthony Marchesani fired 73-69—142 cards and share third place to lead OCU.

Oklahoma City shot a 291-289—580 on the par-72, 7,106-yard course. The Stars fielded two teams of five golfers with the B team shooting a 303-311—614.

Matthew Cheung posted a 71-77—148, Jamie Warman contributed a 74-75—149 and Zac Oliver shot a 75-76—151 in OCU’s A team.

Jett Johnson sits tied in ninth place with a 72-75—147 card to spearhead OCU’s B team. Scott Verplank shot a 74-78—152 and Brett Dixon supplied an 81-77—158 score. Wyatt Robson followed with an 82-81—163 card, while Issa Abou el Ela shot a 76 in the first round but did not play round two.

The temperature climbed from 63 degrees to a high of 76 on Monday with wind as high as 10-mph.

The final round tees off Tuesday.
