OCU takes lead through 36 holes in San Antonio Shootout

SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma City University sits in front of the pack after two rounds of play in the San Antonio Shootout at TPC San Antonio.

The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA men’s golf, scored 292-283-575. OCU played the Canyons course, a par-72, 7,106 yard course the first round and the Oaks course, a par-72, 7,435 yard course the second round.

Sam Russell, a senior from Eastbourne, East Sussex, England tied for second and turned in a 69-71-140 for the Stars. Russell sat two strokes behind leader Ryan Connolly from Wayland Baptist (Texas).

Anthony Marchesani, a junior from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, turned in a 72-69-141 for the Stars and is tied for fourth.

Oklahoma City’s Jamie Warman and Garrison Mendoza both are tied for 14th after 36 holes. Issa Abou El Ela contributed an 81-74-155.

Weather conditions featured 46-degree temperatures at the beginning of the day with a high of 50 later in the afternoon. Winds blew up to 14 mph.

The final round of the event starts 8 a.m. Tuesday.
