Cameron Cheek of Owasso, the 2023 Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year, has announced he will be signing with the University of Oklahoma on Monday.

Cheek, who until two years ago was concentrating mostly on tennis, has come on strong as a senior. The home schooled athlete did not play on Owasso’s High School team, but blossomed into a star on the hyper-competitive OJGT. He won the Ponca City Spring Championship, then this fall won back-to-back events, shooting 65-66 with 13 birdies and an eagle to win at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City, then the following week shot 67-68 to win the Best of the West Classic at Lincoln Park.

His three victories in seven events gave him 1,100 points, finishing well ahead of Oklahoma State signee Collin Bond of Norman, who won twice in seven events and finished with 822.5 points.

As a Sooner he’ll join a roster replete with former OJGT players Drew Goodman, Jaxon Dowell, Ryder Cowan and Jake Hopper. He will be the fourth signee this fall, joining Andrew Ramos, Clark van Gaalen and Asher Whitaker who all signed national letters earlier.
