Oklahoma City, UCO, Oklahoma Christian to battle it out at Kickingbird

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University’s Kailey Campbell held second place, shooting a 74 in the first round of the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invitational.l Monday at Kickingbird Golf Course.

Campbell, a sophomore from Oktaha, Okla, is three shots off the leader while knocking in 14 pars. The 4th-ranked Stars hold a one stroke lead while shooting a 304 on the par-70, 5824-yard course.

Emma Allen, a freshman from Tulsa, sits tied for third with a 75, while Anna Mikish, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla., converted three birdies and tied for ninth with a 76.

Caroline Goodin, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, contributed a 79, while Abby Thompson, a junior from Edmond, Okla., turned in an 83.

The temperature at the start on Monday’s round was 48 with light rain and 3 mph wind. The temperature grew to 50 degrees with 7 mph wind.

Emilee White sank her first career hole-in-one for Southern Nazarene as the sophomore buried the tee shot of the par-3, 138-yard shot on hole three at KickingBird Golf Course.

Daniela Martinez and Marla Souvannasing both shot 75 to lead Central Oklahoma into second place.  The Bronchos finished with a 305 and trail Oklahoma City by one shot heading into Tuesday’s final round.  Oklahoma Chrisitan is third in the 14-team field at 306, followed by Arkansas Tech (316) and Henderson State (320).  

Martinez and Souvannasing are tied for third in the individual race, four shots behind leader Ally Harris of Henderson State.  UCO also got a 77 from Lindsey Bensch, while Bethany Darrough shot 78 and Katie Bensch 80.

"It was a pretty tough day out there with the rain," head coach Michael Bond said.  "We didn’t play our best, but we’re in good position and just need to come out ready to go tomorrow."

Oklahoma Christian won its first women’s golf tournament this spring and the Lady Eagles now are in contention to make it two in a row.

OC posted a team score of 306 and stood in third place, just two shots off the lead.

The Lady Eagles will battle in Tuesday’s final round with a pair of familiar local rivals. It’s a ways back to another Division II power, Arkansas Tech, in fourth place at 316.

OC senior Anna Arrese Cortadellas, who earned co-medalist honors while leading OC to the team title last week in the Las Vegas Desert Invitational, and teammate Audrey Meisch each shot a 5-over-75 on Monday and were tied for third, four shots behind the individual leader, Ally Harris of Henderson State (Ark.).

OC sophomore India Matthews was tied for 11th after shooting a 77 – recording three birdies along the way – and another sophomore, Allison Sell, gave the Lady Eagles four players in the top 20 of the 88-woman field, as she stood tied for 19th after firing a 79.

Senior Catherine Odgers shot an 82 as the fifth player for the Lady Eagles on Monday.

The Lady Eagles’ other four players are competing as individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Dana Todd led that group with an 83, putting her in a tie for 41st. Freshman Chaise Lucero shot an 88 and stood tied for 54th, while sophomore Mindy Stafford and junior Alyssa Schneider each posted a 99 and were tied for 80th.The final round will begin Tuesday at 8:30 am.
