Oklahomans excel in AJGA events over weekend

Several Oklahoma players made strong showings in events on the American Junior Golf Association circuit over Labor Day weekend.

In the Juniors Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., playing The Players Stadium Course, Ryder Cowan of Edmond shot even-par for 54 holes to take eighth place against a field of top juniors from throughout the country. Cowan, a recent University of Oklahoma commit, shot rounds of 71-72-73 on the par-72 Pete Dye design home to The Players Championship.

Parker Sands of Edmond and Bryant Polhill of Edmond finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Accenture Northwest Arkansas Junior at The Highlands Course at Bella Vista. Sands shot 4-under after rounds of 71-70-71 while Polhill was 3-under after rounds of 72-71-70. The winner was Henry Guan of Irving, Texas at 7-under.

In the girls division at the same event, Jenni Roller of Jenks placed fourth at even par after rounds of 74-71-71 while Raychel Nelke of Pocola was sixth at 4-over after shooting 71-75-74.
