KYLE, Texas – The Oral Roberts women’s golf team shot a school record-tying 282 in the first round of the spring season and sits in third place after 36 holes at the Texas State Invitational. UTSA leads the way at 569, while ORU has a score of 576 (282-294) after day one of the tournament. The University of Tulsa is in fourth place.

ORU’s 282 was tied with host Texas State for the best round of the day. The round tied the ORU school record, shot March 16, 2015 at the Jackrabbit Invitational. It was ORU’s best round of the year by 10 shots, topping the 292 shot in both the first round of the N.M. State Aggie Invitational, and the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

Aiding the cause of the school record was Sarah Bell, who shot a 68 which is tied for the third best round in program history. It was Bell’s fifth round under par this year but the first time to break 70.

Beatriz Garcia also got in under par in the opening round with a 70, while Isabella Caamal shot even-par 71 in both rounds.

The Tulsa women’s golf team sits in 4th place.  The Golden Hurricane carded rounds of 287 and 290 for a 36-hole score of 577 at the par-71 Plum Creek Golf Course.

Two Tulsa golfers –– Lorena Tseng and Johanna Samuelsson –– are among the top-7 golfers heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes.

Tseng shot an opening round 1-under par 70 and finished the day in fourth place overall with a total score of 141 following a second-round score of 71. After a bogey on the par-4 second hole to start the first round, Tseng recorded two straight birdies and then birdied hole 6 and ended the first nine holes with a 2-under par score, and on the back nine had one birdie and two bogeys.

The senior Samuelsson sits one stroke behind Tseng at 142 following rounds of 73 and 69 for a seventh place 36-hole total. Samuelsson had four birdies during second-round play for her 2-under par round,

Newcomer Sammy Liu, playing in her first collegiate tournament, turned in an opening round even-par 71, as she birdied two holes and also had two bogeys. Liu finished the day in 20th place after a second-round score of 3-over par 74.

Freshman Shaelee Scarberry and senior Olivia Jackson are in 46th and 58th place, respectively. Scarberry turned in rounds of 76 and 73 for a 149 total, while Jackson has a score of 153.
