JONESBORO, Arkansas – The Oral Roberts men’s golf team is in second place after two rounds at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Golden Eagles trail Arkansas State by 13 shots and are eight shots ahead of UT Arlington.
Dustin Hasley is currently tied for second place after the first two rounds. Hasley shot 71, 67 in the first two rounds and is two strokes off the lead. Hunter Laughlin holds a spot in the top 10 at sixth after shooting a 72 and 69 in the first two rounds.
Oklahoma Christian, the only Division II team in the field, is in 10th place, led by Alex Motes, who shot a second-round 4-under-par 68 to put him in the top 10 while his Oklahoma Christian teammates held their own Playing as an individual, Motes, a junior from Sulphur Springs, Texas, recorded seven birdies in the second round on the 6,565-yard golf course after posting a first-round 74 (which included six birdies). At 2-under 142, he was five shots behind Julien Sale of tournament host Arkansas State, who was at 137. Motes’ 13 birdies ranked second among the 74 players in the event.
No. 6-ranked OC, the only Division II team in the 13-team field, rose as high as fourth in the standings before sliding late in the second round to 10th. The Eagles, after team rounds of 304 and 297, were at 601 and only nine shots behind fourth-place South Dakota in a tightly bunched pack. Arkansas State (555) led the tournament by 13 shots over Oral Roberts.
Among the OC starters, junior Andres Brictson of Merida, Mexico, led the way, following a 75 with a 1-under 71 that included four birdies. He was tied for 16th at 146 (2-over).
Senior Trevor Norby of Carlsbad, Calif., recovered from a first-round 77 with a 72 in a roller coaster of a second round that featured six birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys. At 149, he was tied for 33rd.
Freshman Mateo Pulcini (77-75—152) was tied for 42nd, while freshman Alejandro Armijo (75-79—154) was tied for 51st. Freshman Ransen Turner (81-79—160) was tied for 67th. The Eagles had 33 birdies as a team, ranked fifth in the field.
