OSU’s Hinson-Tolchard wins Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship
LAKE WORTH, Florida – Oklahoma State women’s golfer Maddison Hinson-Tolchard won the Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship with a 5&4 decision over Florida State’s Taylor Roberts on Thursday.
The freshman from Perth, Australia poured in five birdie putts on her way to winning the final match at The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches. One of the most prestigious amateur events in the country, previous winners of the WSGA Amateur Championship include LPGA stars Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson, among many others.
On top of her victory over Roberts in the WSGA Amateur finals, Hinson-Tolchard also took down Florida’s Jenny Kim (1-up), Lisa Marie Rudometkin of the University of San Francisco (5-up), BYU’s Cynthia Tu (4-up) and Mary Murray from the University of Houston.
Hinson-Tolchard played a key role in Oklahoma State’s run to the NCAA Championship finals just two weeks ago to cap off a fantastic freshman campaign for the Cowgirls. The freshman recorded a stroke average of 73.05, which is the 11th best mark in the history of the program, and GolfStat ranked her No. 84 in the country.
Her par-3 scoring average of 3.04 is the fourth best ever by a Cowgirl, and her 2-over 290 at the NCAA Championship earned her a T15 finish in Scottsdale, Arizona.
