With a three-round 860 (+20), the 19th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team finished third at the NCAA Eugene Regional, securing its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships. The 13-team regional was played at the 6,990-yard, par-70 Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

Along with the Sooners, Stanford, Oregon, Houston and South Carolina all advanced to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Stanford, the No. 1 seed, won the event with a 13-over 853, narrowly edging host school and No. 9 seed Oregon, who placed second with an 854 (+14). No. 2 seed Houston and No. 4 seed South Carolina completed the top five with scores of 875 (+35) and 880 (+40), respectively. Niklas Lindstrom of Liberty will travel to NCAAs as an individual after tying for third then defeating Chattanooga’s Chris Robb in a playoff.

For the final 18 holes, OU tallied a 13-over-par 293. OU started the day nine strokes behind Stanford but found itself tied with the squad midway through the round before the Cardinal pulled away late.

Individually, three Sooners claimed top-10 finishes, including sophomore Beau Titsworth, junior Michael Gellerman and junior Charlie Saxon. Titsworth grabbed seventh place with a 4-over 214 after shooting a 3-over 73 on Saturday. The finish is his fourth within the top 10 this season and his second straight after taking a share of fifth at the Big 12 Championship last month.

With 5-over 215s, Gellerman and Saxon tied for eighth place. Gellerman fired a 74 (+4) for the final 18 holes, while Saxon carded a 73 (+3). The top-10 finishes are the fifth and fourth of the season for Gellerman and Saxon, respectively.

Senior Michael Schoolcraft shot a 75 (+5) on Saturday, bringing his three-round total to 221 (+11), good for 31st place. Finishing one stroke behind Schoolcraft was freshman Max McGreevy, who recorded a 222 (+12) after shooting a 3-over 73 in the final round. McGreevy finished in a tie for 32nd place.

Fifth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl said he is proud of the way the Sooners played throughout the event.

"We had a great week, and we are excited to be heading to Prairie Dunes," Hybl said. "We fought hard all week long, and I am proud of these guys. Regionals is such a tough week, and we really did a great job."

OU’s third-place showing is its highest at a regional since also taking third in 2011. This season, the Sooners now have eight top-three finishes in 12 events.

The 30-team NCAA Championships will be held May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. In 2012 and 2013, the Sooners took 11th at the national tournament, while they finished 28th in 2011.
