Rogers State men in second, women seventh in Texas events
IRVING, Texas – The Rogers State men’s golf team is the top NCAA Division II team after the first two rounds of the DBU Patriot Classic on Monday (April 2) at Hackberry Creek CC. The Hillcats shot rounds of 300 and 296 to total a 596 in the 14-team field.
The navy and red sits second overall, seven strokes back of Texas Wesleyan’s score of 589.
Four freshmen led the way with Aidan Gavey in ninth after the first day. He opened with a 1-under-par 71 in the first round and added a 76 for a 147. Gonzalo Charles shot 70 in the second round after opening with a 79 and moved up to 13th at 149.
Luke Palmowski ranks 22nd at 150 (75-75), George Burnett is 32nd at 153 and senior Alex Marsh shot 155 (75-79).
Emilio Gonzales of St. Mary’s leads the field at 1-under-par 143 and four golfers are tied for second at 1-over-par 145.
RSU women battle in West Texas Desert Invitational
The Rogers State women’s golf team sits in seventh place out of 17 teams after the first round at the West Texas Desert Invitational where the Hillcats shot 318 at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon – Canyon Course on Monday.
Junior Alex Massie and redshirt freshman Jess Whitting shot 76 and are tied for 11th after one round on the 5,978-yard, par-72 course. Senior Mica Eastin shot 82 and sophomore Sydney Murray shot 84.
Jaime Jacob of CSU-San Marcos holds the individual lead after the first round by two shots at 1-under-par 71. Kaylin Milholland of West Texas and Sierra Langlie of Augustana sit in a tie for second at 1-over-par 73.
With three golfers in the top 11, CSU-San Marcos ranks first as a team with a 299 in the first round. St. Mary’s sits in second at 301 with three Rattlers shooting 3-over-par 75s.
The final round of the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational is Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon – Canyon Course. The Hillcats will start on holes seven through nine. Live scoring will once again be available.
