SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Tanner Alder sits in a three-way tie atop the first-round leaderboard as the Rogers State men’s golf team opened the spring championship season in a tie for fourth after a shortened day one Monday at the San Antonio Shootout held at TPC San Antonio Canyons Course. The Hillcats are tied with Oklahoma Christian and the University of Central Oklahoma.

The Hillcats shot a 330 facing difficult conditions with wind chills in the low 20’s and winds gusting over 20 miles per hour, factors which combined to force the cancellation of Monday’s second round in the 14-team tournament.

Alder fired a 4-over-par 76 to join Sam Johnston of Oklahoma Christian and Austin Jordan of Incarnate Word for the individual lead at the mid-point of the now 36-hole event. The senior leads the field in par-four scoring going even par with matching sides of 38.

Freshman Alex Marsh was the only other player for RSU to break 80 carding a 79 claiming a tie for sixth overall of the 77 competitors. He carded three of the Hillcats’ event-leading six birdies on the day.

Hagen Barmasse and Henning Hogmoen rounded out the day’s scoring for RSU with rounds of 86 and 89, respectively. Mark Healy shot a 91 in his first appearance of the season for the Hillcats.

Incarnate Word holds first place with a four shot lead over Midwestern State after an opening day 319.

The teams close the tournament Tuesday playing at TPC San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course, where the PGA Tour plays the Valero Texas Open.
