Sands went on to shoot a second-round 70 for a 12-under total of 132, five shots ahead of Grant Gudgel of Stillwater (68-69) and Josh Stuart of Blanchard (67-70). Christian Johnson of Oklahoma City was fourth at 138 (67-71) and Nolan Rankin, Norman took fifth at 139 (69-70)

Olivia Coit of Edmond shot rounds of 71-75 to win the girls division by three shots over Juliana Hong of Norman (71-78). Peyton Coburn of Broken Arrow (75-75) and Mimi Hoang of Oklahoma City (75-75) tied for third at 150, while Jaiden Gregston of Duncan was fifth at 153 (77-76).

Sixteen players in the boys division shot even-par or better, showing there is no let up in sight to the talent coming out of the Oklahoma junior golf ranks. Sands went out in 4-under 32 on his front nine, then birdied holes 10, 11 and 12 to reach 7-under. He added a birdie on 15 then eagled the par-5 18th hole to cap off a memorable round.
