Sands shoots record 16-under to win OJGT’s Lake Hefner Fall Round Up; Roberts wins girls title
Parker Sands of Edmond shot consecutive rounds of 8-under 64 this weekend for an astounding 16-under total of 128 to breeze to a six-shot victory in the Lake Hefner Fall Round Up n the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour presented by the Talor Gooch Foundation.
The total of 16-under exceeds the previous record of 15-under shot by William Sides at South Lakes in 2020. Sides shot 15-under after rounds of 65-62 on the par-71 course. OJGT Director Morri Rose said the boys played from 6,850 yards with firm fairways, light winds and the greens in excellent condition.
“I said before hand that if you are ever going to shoot a number, this is the week to do it,” Rose said. “I guess I was right. That’s tremendous golf by Parker. That’s a memorable day right there.”
Sands made nine birdies against one bogey on Sunday and six birdies with one eagle on Saturday with no bogeys.
Bo Burton of Edmond fired off consecutive rounds of 5-under 67 to finish second at 10-under, a shot ahead of Ryder Cowan of Edmond (67-68). Four golfers finished tied at 7-under; Preston Albee of Choctaw (70-67), Samuel Bonaobra of Broken Arrow (71-66), Harry Satterlee of Joplin, Mo., (68-69) and Roger Smith of Oklahoma City (67-70).
Sands, who won the OGA Junior Amateur Championship last spring at Lincoln Park, is a junior at Edmond North and plays out of Oak Tree National. He moved to Oklahoma from Minnesota in 2020.
Class 6A state champion Rylee Roberts of Edmond shot even-par 144 to win the girls division by a shot over Jaiden Gregston of Duncan (72-73) and Allie Justiz of Arcadia (73-72). Sophia Lefler of Tulsa (74-72) and Emerie Schartz of Wichita (74-72) tied for fourth at 146.
