Scarberry wins second consecutive Texas-Oklahoma Junior Championship

ShaeBug Scarberry of Purcell defended her title at the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Open Championship Wednesday at Wichita Falls Country Club. With a 1-over 72, Scarberry (75-72-72—219) beat playing partner and second place finisher, Summer Marshall of Norman (77-70-75—222), by three strokes.

Robby Evans of Flower Mound, Texas won the open championship for the boys’ division by three strokes as well. Austyn Reily of Pottsboro, Texas placed second, and Brock Polhill of Edmond finished in third. Evans, a first-time competitor in the T-O championship and University of Dallas commit, entered the third and final round with a four-stroke lead. He led the pack by at least two shots throughout the day before officially securing the coveted champion title.

Scarberry entered the final round tied for the lead with Marshall and eventual fourth-place finisher Randi Romack of Austin, Texas. Marshall had shot 70 Tuesday, which was not only the lowest round of the day, but the lowest round of her career. Scarberry made her third career hole-in-one in her round of 72 at the Champions Course at Weeks Park, where the second round of the tournament was held.

In the final round, Scarberry was 5-over through 10 holes before putting on her game face. With four holes left to play, she trailed Marshall by two strokes. After birdieing holes 15 and 16, the two were tied standing on the final tee box. With one last birdie by Scarberry and a double-bogey by Marshall, the Purcell native and University of Tulsa verbal commit landed her second consecutive T-O Junior Golf Championship.

Maddi Kamas of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, won the 12-13 girls’ division, shooting superb rounds of 73-71-73. Lilly Whitley of Edmond, Oklahoma placed third in the 14-15 girls’ division.
