SCSPGA pros compete in PGA professional championship

Five PGA Members representing the South Central Section PGA are competing in the PGA Professional National Championship in Seaside, California at the Bayonet and Black Horse golf courses. At stake, beyond the Walter Hagen Cup and a $550,000 purse, are 20 spots in the upcoming PGA Championship this summer at Bellerive CC in St. Louis.

312 players will battle for 36 holes to make a 90 player cut on Monday, then, an additional cut after 54 holes will pare the field down to 70 players. Tournament leaders are at 68 (-4) after 18 holes Sunday. Tim Fleming of Oklahoma City G&CC leads the Section contingent with a one over 73, placing him in a tie for 35th. Blake Bowman with Yamaha Golf and Trent Rommann from Crestview Country Club in Wichita are next at 74 (T59), then Jeff Combe from Tulsa Country Club at 76 (T134), and Kyley Tetley of The Golf Studio at 77(T165).

The 36 hole projected cut is at 146 (+2), and full leaderboard and information can be found at The Golf Channel is providing coverage of the event through Wednesday. Viewing times are 6-9pm Central Monday and Tuesday, and 5:30-8:30pm Wednesday. A playoff for the PGA spots is nearly guaranteed on Wednesday, which is always very intense and entertaining.
