Sooners look to repeat at Calusa Cup in Naples
NAPLES, Fla. – The top-ranked Oklahoma men’s golf team will look to defend its team title next week at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla. Slated for April 3-5, the three-day, 54-hole event will host a nine-team field that features seven top-25 teams, including three inside the top 11.
The Sooners took home the trophy at last year’s inaugural Calusa Cup, hosted at Calusa Pines, ranked as the No. 74 course in the United States and third in Florida. Last season, the 7,320-yard course provided several challenges for the field as the Crimson and Cream was the only team to get into the red, firing an 859 (-5) to win the title.
The Sooners have four team wins this season, including two in the spring, where they put together the best back-to-back tournament scores in program history.
The Oklahoma lineup changes for Calusa as All-American Logan McAllister is in San Antonio making his professional debut at the Valero Texas Open. Chris Gotterup and Patrick Welch highlight the OU lineup as both seniors have won individual titles this season. Those two All-Americans are joined by redshirt freshman Stephen Campbell Jr., true freshman Drew Goodman and sophomore Ben Lorenz, who have combined for five top-10 finishes this year.

HISTORY
The Sooners won last year’s inaugural Calusa Cup, finishing as the only team under par and holding off Georgia Tech and then-No. 1 Florida State to win by eight strokes. The win marked the team’s third of the season, tied for third-most in a single season in program history and it was Ryan Hybl’s 28th win as head coach. McAllister’s runner-up finish, paired with a trio of OU All-Americans inside the top 15, was enough to extend the final-round lead and beat a field that featured the nation’s top three teams and two more ranked inside the top 15 nationally.
FORMAT
Fifty-four holes will be played over three days. Tee times will be made available later and published on the OU Men’s Golf social media accounts.
