Sooners tied for sixth at Erin Hills

The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team is tied for sixth place at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate after shooting a 2-over 290. The 14-team tournament is being played at the Erin Hills Golf Course, a 7,234-yard, par-72 track located in Erin, Wis.
The Sooners are tied with Marquette and Michigan and sit 10 strokes behind leader and No. 11-ranked Stanford. UCLA and SMU share second place with a 2-under 286, while No. 39 Northwestern and No. 45 Oregon State are tied for fourth place with scores of 289 (+1). The tournament is the first-ever collegiate event to be held at Erin Hills Golf Course, which will be the site of the 2017 U.S. Open.
“We played solid today, not great, but solid,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “All of our guys could have been better, no doubt, but overall I like where we are at going into tomorrow. We need all five guys in the red tomorrow.”
Freshman Max McGreevy is tied for seventh out of 81 competitors after firing a 1-under-par 71. McGreevy pocketed four birdies in the round and trails leaders Zach Gaugert of Marquette, Harry Higgs of SMU and Patrick Rodgers of Stanford by three strokes.
Tied for 17th are junior Michael Gellerman and sophomore Beau Titsworth with scores of 72 (E). Gellerman recorded two birdies, while Titsworth carded three Sunday.
With scores of 75 (+3) for the first 18 holes, junior Charlie Saxon and senior Michael Schoolcraft share 45th place.
Competing as an individual in his first collegiate event, freshman Emilio Maurer shot a 4-over 76 to tie for 54th place.
