Sooners well back in Southern Highlands Collegiate

The No. 1 Oklahoma men’s golf team holds eighth place after 36 holes at the Southern Highlands Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event is taking place at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

OU carded a 292 (+4) during Monday’s second round, bringing its team total to 590 (+14). The elite 15-team field features nine teams in the top 25 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, including all top five schools.

Southern California remains in the lead after two rounds at 570 (-6) after posting a 283 (-5) during the second round. No. 4 Texas is in second at 579 (+3). No. 22 Florida and No. 7 Texas Tech share third place going into Tuesday’s final 18 holes with team totals of 583 (+7). UCLA rounds at the top five at 586 (+10).

Senior Quade Cummins led the Sooners for the second consecutive round, holding a share of eleventh place at even-par 144 after shooting 1-under 71 in the second round.

Sophomore Patrick Welch shot a 72 during Monday’s round and is tied for 14th place with a two-day total of 145. Welch also fired three birdies to aid the Sooners finish.

Senior Garett Reband holds a share of 27th place after 36 holes at 148. Reband posted a 74 during Monday’s action. Reband picked up two birdies in the last three holes during the round to total four birdies.

Freshman Jake Holbrook carded a 75 in the second round and is tied for 61st place at 153. Sophomore Logan McAllister shot 81 and is tied for 79th place at 159.

The final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate is scheduled for Tuesday. The Sooners will tee off from hole No. 1 at 11:00 a.m. CT. OU will be paired with Georgia and Duke during Tuesday’s third round.
