Stark, Chacarra power Cowboys to lead in Cabo Collegiate

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team fired an opening 13-under 271 on Sunday to grab the lead after day one at the Cabo Collegiate at Cabo Del Sol’s Cove Club Course.

The Cowboys finished the day one shot clear of Florida State at the par-71, 6,807-yard layout. Ole Miss held the third position at 10-under 274.

Oklahoma State’s Brian Stark paced the individual race, firing a 6-under 65. The junior opened with a birdie at the par-3 seventh before reeling off three consecutive birdies at Nos. 11-13. He carded his lone bogey of the day at the 14th. Stark moved back to 4-under for the day with a birdie at the 16th.

Stark would card his sixth and seventh birdies of the day at Nos. 3 and 4 to get to his total.

Joining Stark in the top 10 were senior Eugenio Chacarra, who fired a 4-under 67 to come in tied for fourth place, and sophomore Bo Jin. The sophomore posted a 68 to share seventh place.

Sophomore Jonas Baumgartner carded a 71 to finish in a tie for 36th place, while junior Rayhan Thomas carded an opening 73 to come in tied for 52nd place.

The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8 a.m. (MST) and will be grouped with Florida State, Ole Mis and Arkansas. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
