Stars survive Redlands CC charge in Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

Natalie Gough and Rachel Eckert both finished in the top 10 and Lauren Behnken closed with a 72 as Oklahoma City University was able to hold off a hard-charging Redlands Community College by one stroke to win the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on the East Course at Lincoln Park Tuesday.

Gough closed with a 73 to finish tied for second at 145 and Eckert shot consecutive rounds of 74 to tie for seventh at 148. Behnken moved up to 12th at 150 and McKenzie McCoy was the fourth counter Tuesday with an 80 to place in a tie for 55th.

Marvelyn Kartika nearly brought Redlands from fifth to the top with her final-round 3-under 67, the best round in the field. The sophomore from Indonesia finished as the medalist at 2-over 142 after her first round 75. Teammate Katie Graham shot even-par 70 and tied for 12th. Hallie Schultz shot 76 and Maisie Liddell 77 as Redlands posted 290, the best team score in the tournament by nine shots. Redlands is ranked sixth among the nation’s junior college teams by Golfstat.
