Stellar field set to compete in Oklahoma Junior Masters Monday at Southern Hills CC
There will be quite a field on hand to test their skills against one of the nation’s best and most historic courses when the Oklahoma Junior Masters is held Monday at Southern Hills Country Club.
Not only are 44 of the state’s top junior players competing, but the competition in the alumni category for 12 former Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour members could be riveting.
Taking part will be Austin Eckroat of Edmond, who last week set a course record 61 at Oak Tree National, as well as Quade Cummins of Weatherford, the University of Oklahoma senior All-American expected to lead the Sooners on a favored quest to win the NCAA championship in 2021.
OU teammate Logan McAllister and two Oklahomans currently playing for the University of Arkansas – Mason Overstreet of Kingfisher and Tyson Reeder of Edmond, are also among the 12 collegiate players in the field.

Recently crowned OGA Junior Champions JP Roller and Emily Miller are competing. Roller will again have to contend with top juniors such as Andrew Goodman, Jaxon Dowell, Jordan Wilson, Luke Morgan and dozens of other top players from across the state. Maddi Kamas, winner of four events already in 2020 including the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association Stroke Play Championship earlier this week, is in the field along with Raychel Nelke, Jenni Roller, Brooklyn Benn and Reagan Chaney.
To maintain safety, each player is being allowed three spectators who must walk. No carts will be allowed.
Southern Hills created this invitational event in conjunction with the Oklahoma Golf Association in recognition that the high school and collegiate players lost their spring seasons and many of their summer events as well. No decisions have been made as yet as to whether it will be an annual event.
Southern Hills has been the site of seven major championships and has hosted numerous other championships. The 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship will be held there in May and the 2030 PGA Championship is also on the schedule. The club completed an $11 million renovation in 2019 under the supervision of architect Gil Hanse including all new greens and bunkers and numerous other modifications. Many members say the course is in spectacular condition but playing two to three shots harder than before the renovation.
