Stevens, Eckroat, Hale and Cummins survive first cut at Western Amateur

Former Oklahoma State golfer Sam Stevens of Wichita moved into a tie for second place after two rounds of the Western Amateur at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Ill.

Stevens shot rounds of 65-66 and is two shots behind Spencer Ralston of Gainsville, Ga. Also making the cut of 44 players and ties for today’s 36 holes of stroke play was current OSU golfer Austin Eckroat of Edmond, who is in 21st place at 7-under. Golfers must be in the top 16 at the end of Thursday’s play to advance to match play.

The University of Oklahoma’s Blaine Hale of Dallas advanced in 27th place (66-70), as did fellow Sooner Quade Cummins of Weatherford, who opened with a 72 but roared back with a 65 Wednesday and is tied for 34th at 5 under.

Not advancing were Logan McAllister of Oklahoma City and Mason Overstreet of Kingfisher, both tied for 57th at 3 under, as well as Hayden Wood of Edmond, tied for 81st at 1 under, and Brad Dalke of Norman, tied for 105th at 2 over.
