Swan leads Golden Eagles to second in ORU Spring Invite

BROKEN ARROW, Okla – The Oral Roberts women’s golf team finished second at the ORU Spring Invite with five Golden Eagles finishing in the top 20 Tuesday afternoon at The Club at Indian Springs in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

The Golden Eagles had five finish top 20 and three finish top 10 as the team shot a 876 (+12) to finish 19 strokes behind team leader Sam Houston. ORU had its best round in round three with a 284 (+4).

Lydia Swan had the best finish of her ORU career with a 213 (-3) score to place second. Swan did not shoot over par in the three rounds played. Her best round came in round two with a 70 (-2) scorecard. She recorded nine birdies for the tournament and finished two strokes behind the individual winner Leah Alberto from Sam Houston. Alberto closed with a 5-under 67 to shoot 5-under for the 54 holes.

Cristina Riu placed seventh overall with a 218. Riu shot a 69 (-3) in round two and captured 10 birdies. Her tournament was highlighted by four birdies on the back nine in round two. Malene Arildsen finished tied for eighth overall with a 220 (+4) score. Newcomer Morgan Palermo competed in her first tournament as a Golden Eagle and hit a hole-in-one on number seven (par 3) Tuesday. Palermo scored a 69 (-3) in round three and had 11 birdies overall.

Megan Lee competed as an individual and finished tied for 18th overall with a 224 (+8) score. Lee had a 73 (+1) for her best round on Tuesday and hit six birdies throughout the tournament.

Also among those competing as individuals was Wichita State freshman Brookly Benn of Edmond, who shot 227, and Missouri State’s Faith Hopkins of Bartlesville (tied for 41st at 234). Oklahoma State sent over three individuals and the best result was a tie for 52nd by Emma Whitaker at 238.
