Former University of Oklahoma golfer Anne-Catherine Tanguay and former Oklahoma State golfer Maddie McCrary both battled their way through the marathon eight-round LPGA Q-Series at Pinehurst Resort to earn LPGA tour cards for 2019.
Tanguay finished tied for eighth at 4-under while McCrary finished tied for 20th at 3-over. The top 45 players earned status for 2019.
Both former Oklahoma State golfer Jordan Niebrugge and former University of Central Oklahoma golfer and current Oak Tree National member Josh Creel advanced through the first Web.com Tour second stage event held at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif., and will play in the Web.com Tour Finals Dec. 6-9 in Chandler, Ariz.
Niebrugge shot 10-under for 72 holes to tie for sixth while Creel, a three-time winner this past summer on the APT Tour, was a shot back at 9-under and tied for eighth. The top 14 and ties advanced. Complete results here.
Other players with Oklahoma ties will be in action Tuesday through Friday as the other four second-stage events are contested.
Several players with Oklahoma ties fared well in the Shriners Hospital for Children Open on the PGA Tour in Las Vegas. Former University of Oklahoma golfer Abraham Ancer and Edmond North graduate Robert Streb tied for fourth at 17-under. Streb’s high school teammate Kevin Tway of Edmond tied for 23rd at 12-under with former Oklahoma State teammate Peter Uihlein, who was in contention before a final-round 75. Rookie Anders Albertson, son of Tulsa businessman Scott Albertson, tied for 28th at 11-under.
