Kyley Tetley, instructor at The Golf Studio in Bixby, won the South Central Section Yamaha Match Play Championship Wednesday with a 1 up victory in 19 holes over Brent Wilcoxen, head professional at South Lakes Golf Course in Jenks, at Hot Springs Country Club.
Wilcoxen reached the final match with a 1 up victory over Phillip Holley in the semifinals, while Tetley knocked off Mark Fuller, general manager at Surrey Hills Country Club in Yukon, 2 and 1.
Tetley birdied the par-5 18th hole in the playoff to win the event, hitting his second shot on the fringe and two-putting while Wilcoxen missed his birdie effort.
Wilcoxen had come back from a two-hole deficit on the 16th and 17th, chipping in for birdie on 16 and then nearly making an ace on the par-3 17th. Both players made pars on 18 in regulation to force the playoff.
Tetley, who won a South Central Section major for the first time, had to get past Arkansas legend Bob Ralston as well as host professional Barry Howard earlier in the bracket.
“None of them were easy, but I played well throughout,” Tetley said. “The heat was one of the main challenges. It’s a beautiful course, but very hilly and it was hot.”
The Golf Studio opened in March and is a cooperative venture between Tetley and former Golf Club of Oklahoma professional Craig Walker. For more information, go to www.thegolfstudiook.com.
