NEW ORLEANS, La. –– Senior Lilly Thomas carded a tournament best round of 7-under 65 in leading the Tulsa women golfers to a third-place finish at the season-opening Green Wave Fall Classic on Tuesday.

For the first time in the tradition-rich history of Tulsa women’s golf, it marked the first time that all the Tulsa golfers shot under par for a tournament. The six Tulsa women placed among the top-22 individuals in a field of 81 participants.

The Golden Hurricane finished with a final round 8-under par 280 for a 54-hole total score of 26-under 838. Thomas placed third individually with a 10-under par 206, four strokes behind Nebraska medalist Kelli Strand’s 14-under 202 score at the par-72 Bayou Oaks @ City Park South Course.

LSU won the tournament with a 32-under par final score of 832, while Nebraska finished in second place at 29-under par 835.

On Tuesday, Thomas began the day with a birdie on her first hole, the par-3 second, and finished the day with a total of eight birdies, while her only bogey came on the par-4 10th hole.

A trio of freshmen had terrific performances at their first collegiate tournament. Grace Kilcrease finished in eighth place with a score of 7-under par 209 after today’s 1-under 71. Rookie Emily Bohrer, who played as an individual as her score does not count towards the team score, placed 17th overall with a final total of 4-under par 212 after a round of 70.

Sophomore Lovisa Gunnar placed 19th overall after today’s round of 75 put her at 3-under for the tournament with a 213 score.

The third freshman of the group Jenni Roller of Jenks finished in a tie for 22nd place with sophomore teammate Sydney Seigel at 2-under 214 for the 54-hole tournament. They each turned in final round scores of even-par 72.

Tulsa will be in action next at the Oklahoma Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 24-26.
