CHARLESTON, S.C. –– The Golden Hurricane women golfers shot an 8-under-par 280 in Tuesday’s final round to move up eight spots and finish in a tie for fifth at 10-over at the Briar’s Creek Invitational. The Tuesday score equaled Florida State’s Sunday round as the low round in the tournament.

The Seminoles took home the team win after carding a 1-under 287 on Tuesday to finish nine strokes under par. Purdue and SMU tied for second place but still finished 14 strokes behind the leaders. Campbell finished a stroke ahead of Tulsa to place fourth, and East Carolina joined the Hurricane in rounding out the top five.

Tulsa improved 26 shots from its opening round as the Hurricane players figured out the tricky greens after playing the first round without benefit of a practice round. Allyn Stephens and Romaine Masserey both shot 3-under 69 after opening at 76 to tie for 17th. After recording just one birdie in round one, Stephens responded with five on Tuesday. The sophomore was 2-over for the day when she carded her first birdie on five. She followed with five consecutive birdies on seven through 11 before a bogey denied her an even finish.

Masserey had a similar beginning with bogeys on her first two holes. She then birdied 14 to get going. The graduate golfer picked up birdies on holes two and four, the two par-3s on the front nine. She followed her second birdie with another on five. The fifth and final birdie was on 11, her final hole of the tournament.

Sydney Seigel jumped from 76 to 70 while Jenni Roller opened with an 80 and followed that with a 72, moving 29 spots up the leaderboard. Lovisa Gunnar also improved from a 78 to a 75.
