Tulsa ties for fifth at Sam Golden, transfer Stephens claims second
The University of Tulsa opened the 2023 fall season with a tie for fifth in the Sam Golden Invitational at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas, shooting a 4-under 284 in the final round Tuesday to finish at 20-undere 844 in the 54-hole event.
The University of Houston, led by individual champion Ellen Yates at 16-under 202, shot 48-under 816 to roll to the title, 13 shots ahead of second-place North Texas and 21 shots better than third-place Texas-San Antonio. Missouri was fourth at 843, followed by Tulsa and Nebraska at 844.
Lilly Thomas shot 7-under 209 (68-70-71) to lead the way for Tulsa’s counting scores, good for a tie for 13th. Grace Kilcrease was at 5-under (70-69-72), while Lovisa Gunnar (69-70-77) and Jenni Roller (74-72-70) tied for 39th at even par.
Playing as an individual, Allyn Stephens, a transfer from Texas A&M, finished second in the tournament, shooting 12-under after rounds of 67-68-69. Also Sydney Seigel tied for 39th at 2-under (71-71-72).
