Reagan Chaney of Ardmore used her length to her advantage, shooting even-par 71 on the saturated Oak Tree East Country Club course to take a one-shot lead over Raychel Nelke of Pocola after the first round of the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association Junior Championship Tuesday.
The final 18 holes will be played Wednesday. Golfers were called off the course for nearly an hour on Tuesday due to heavy rains.
Jenni Roller of Jenks is a shot back of Nelke after an opening 73. Jaiden Gregston of Duncan is in fourth place with a 74, followed by Maddi Kamas of Kingfisher with a 75 and Brooklyn Benn of Edmond at 76.
Chaney played this same course from a much longer distance successfully in the Oak Tree Junior, finishing tied for 26th from 7,100 yards in a deep field of talented boys from around the state.
