Cowgirls finish fourth in Puerto Rico Classic
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Isabella Fierro tallied the fourth top-10 finish of her freshman season with a 2-under par 70 in the third round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Fierro led the Cowgirls, who shot a 4-over par 292 on the day to finish with an 873 for the tournament and in fourth place as a team. The fourth place finish marks the fifth time in six events Oklahoma State has recorded a top-five finish in Greg Robertson’s first season as head coach.
Coming around the turn, the Cowgirls were in a tie with Texas Tech for first place, but were overtaken by Northwestern who shot 8-under par in the round to win the tournament by six strokes. Northwestern’s Irene Kim took home the individual title with a 9-under par 207.
A 76 on the day for Lianna Bailey left her just outside of a second-straight top-10 finish as she carded a 2-over par 218 for the tournament. Freshman Maja Stark recorded her first under-par round as a Cowgirl with a 71, which moved her into a tie for 16th place in her collegiate debut.
Hailey Jones finished the tournament at 5-over par and in a tie for 22nd place, while Han-Hsuan Yu ended the event in 67th place with a 234. Emma Whitaker turned in her best round of the event, a 3-over par 75 that moved her into a tie for 65th place.
After two tournaments in a row, the Cowgirls will have an opportunity to return to Stillwater for a couple of weeks before heading back to the East Coast for the Hurricane Invitational on March 2.
