Four Oklahomans in field for U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Four Oklahomans are in the field for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship beginning Monday at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C.

Banks Cozby, son of Southern Hills Country Club director of golf Cary Cozby, reached his  first USGA championship when he shot a 71 and advanced from a 4-for-3 playoff at Texarkana (Ark.) Country Club on June 23. Cary reached the Round of 16 in the 1990 U.S. Amateur when he played at the University of Oklahoma. Banks made the Round of 16 in the Oklahoma Golf Association Junior. His lowest competitive round (64) was carded in a qualifier for the Notah Begay III Junior Championship.

At the Oklahoma qualifier at Dornick Hills, Mason Haley of Enid and Bliss Newton of Lonegrove earned spots while Evan Weaver of Pryor was first alternate but later added to the field.
