Hill has 15 birdies as OCU men set records in onslaught at Lake Hefner

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University tied the lowest under-par score in program history with a 23-under-par in round 1 of the Southwestern Christian Invitational at Lake Hefner Golf Course.

The Stars, ranked 11th in NAIA men’s golf, finished the day taking the top three individual spots and the team lead as well.

In the team standings, OCU sat in first with a team score of 265-268–533. The Stars held a 13-stroke lead over 16th-ranked Southwestern Christian at 266-280–546. The OCU Blue team is in 11th at 11 over par. OCU equaled the 23 under par rounds shot in the U.C. Ferguson Classic last week and the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on April 7-8, 2014.

Tres Hill is in the top spot at 14 under par. Hill, a sophomore from Elk City, Okla., had only one bogey for the day and 15 birdies with six coming on the last eight holes. He shot a 64-66–130 on the par-72, 6,970-yard course.

Will Fore sits in second after hitting birdies on three of the last four holes and 12 total on the day. Fore, a senior from Southlake, Texas, fired a 66-66–132.

Leandro Mihaich stood in third with a strong second round where he made five birdies in a row on the front seven and 12 total birdies. He sits four strokes off the pace with a 68-66–134. The closest non-star competitor is Thailand native Thanaphon Suwannapratheep of Dodge City CC at 10 under.

OCU’s Ben Thionnet (69-68–137), Cameron Lopez (67-70–137) and Bosten Benn (66-71–137) all sit tied for 10th at 7 under par.

Alex Bloxham ended the day with a 69-72–141. Caleb Allen carded a 78-77–155, and Carson Breckenridge had an 81-77–158. Bloxham, Fore and Lopez drained eagles Tuesday.

Southwestern Christian amassed a 30-under total, led by Phillip Pakosch at 8-under and Stetson Provence, Jon David Pitts and Gus Fritz all at 7-under.
