Jelley joins McAllister, Goodman in advancing in U.S. Open local qualifying

Brendon Jelley, former Jenks and Oklahoma State golfer now a professional and living in Arizona, tied for first in a local U.S. Open qualifier at AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club Thursday, shooting 3-under-par 69. Five golfers who each shot 69 advanced to sectional qualifying.
On Wedensday, two graduates of the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour and current OU Sooners Logan McAllister and Andrew Goodman made it through local qualifying at Wichita Couintry Club. McAllister led all golfers in the 65-person field with a 67, while Goodman shot 69. Sooner teammate Patrick Welch shot 70 and is the first alternate.
The only qualifier in Oklahoma was held at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in late April. Advancing were current Oklahoma State golfer Hzen Newman, former Oklahoma State golfer Hayden Wood of Edmond, former Arkansas Razorback Tyson Reeder of Edmond, former Sooner Thomas Johnson of Edmond and former Sooner Brad Dalke of Edmond.
Local qualifying continues through May 23. Those players who advance out of local qualifying will join a group of locally exempt players in final qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes. The final stage will be held in Japan and Canada as well as nine U.S. sites on May 23 and June 6.Final qualifying begins May 23 as well. There were 9,265 entries for local qualifying in 2022.
