NSU men, women compete in Hargett Memorial

WINGATE, N.C. – Northeastern State is in third at the Hargett Memorial Invitational after one round Monday.  Aitana Hernandez finished the day tied for second overall, with the RiverHawks carding a 317 score.

No. 4 Limestone paces the field with a 303 score and is edging No. 13 Wingate by a shot.  The No. 33 RiverHawks are four shots ahead of No. 45 Lincoln Memorial.

Hernandez shot a 74 and landed the lone eagle of the day among the 60 golfers competing.   The sophomore was tied for the most pars with 13 and held the second-best scoring average on par-3s and par-5s. Kaylee Petersen and Yasmin Hang are in the top-20 after the first round. Petersen shot 79 and is tied for 13th overall.  Hang shot 80 and is in 20th.Nina Lee and Kelly Swanson each shot 84.

NSU men climb leaderboard at Hargett Memorial

WINGATE, N.C. – Northeastern State fired off the second-lowest score Monday afternoon and is in seventh place overall at the Hargett Memorial Invitational.

The RiverHawks carded a 307 in Monday’s first-round, and behind a 291 in the afternoon, they climbed up one on the leaderboard.  NSU’s round was highlighted with three eagles on the final hole.

Carlos Gomez paced NSU with a 146 (74-72), which is good for a seventh-place tie.  The Tulsa native had 24 pars and five birdies overall.

Ryan Morant bounced back from a first-round seven-over 79 and shot the team’s low round with a 71 in the afternoon.   He is tied for 21st on the leaderboard.

Brayden Strickland is a stroke behind Morant, carding a 78 and 73 on the course.  The freshman from Broken Arrow is tied for 26th overall.  Gabe Replogle (79-75) and Grant Hynes (76-78) each carded 154s and are tied for 43rd.

The RiverHawks had 94 pars and ranked fifth with 23 birdies and performed best on par-5 holes, shooting a seven-under.

Erskine College holds a three-shot lead in the 15-team event.
