NSU’s Moberg wins Central Region Preview
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Northeastern State closed out its regular season with a bang on Tuesday with Ebba Moberg claiming an individual title at the Central Region Preview.
Moberg scored a 145 (74-71) for her third career first-place finish and second title in the last three seasons at the Rivercut Golf Course. Northeastern State finished the two-round tournament runner up to second-ranked Dallas Baptist after carding a 609 (301-308). Central Oklahoma finished third and Southwestern Oklahoma State fourth.
NSU has placed in the top-2 in five of its ten tournaments this season, with two team titles.
Aitana Hernandez finished in the top-10 for the fourth time in her freshman campaign carding a 150 (72-78) for a sixth-place stop on the leaderboard.
Lexi Armon was tied for 13th overall on a 153 (74-79) score. Nina Lee shot at 165 (85-80) and Amber Bruins had a 168 (81-87) to make up the rest of the NSU starting-five.
In four seasons at NSU, Moberg has 20 finishes in the top-10 and 11 top-5s.
Dallas Baptist would finish 20 strokes ahead of NSU for their eighth team title of the season.
The RiverHawks are off until April 22 where they will compete for their fourth straight MIAA Title.
Madison O’Dell’s final-round 76 helped spark Central Oklahoma to a third-place showing. The Bronchos closed with a 315 to finish the two-day event with a 620 total.
Fellow freshman Faith Stewart backed up O’Dell’s round with a 78, while Sydney Roberts shot 79. Makena Mucciaccio and Yuna Sato both added 82s for the Bronchos.
Roberts tied for ninth in the individual standings with a 152 total, while Stewart and O’Dell tied for 16th at 154.
The Bronchos don’t play again until going to Mayetta, Kan. April 22-24 for the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championships.
SWOSU was the top finishing team among seven Great American Conference schools in the field and the Lady Bulldogs were just one shot behind Central Oklahoma in third place.
Leading the way for SWOSU was senior Elin Wahlin, who carded rounds of 74 and 78 to earn a top-ten finish as she tied for ninth place at nine-over par for the tournament. One shot behind her was Chloe Thackeray, who tied for 13th place while the Lady Bulldogs other three finishers – Veronika de Bochdanovits, Gloria Choi and Jenna Eidem all tied at 14-over par for the tournament.
The Regional Preview was the final regular season event for the Lady Bulldogs, who now turn their attention to postseason play, which begins on Sunday at the Great American Conference Championships, an event that will continue through Tuesday in Hot Springs, Arkansas. SWOSU was ranked fourth in the initial NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, which were released last week on NCAA.com.
