OCU Stars enter final round of NAIA Championship in third place
SILVIS, Ill – Oklahoma City University stood put at third overall during the third round of the NAIA Championship at TPC at Deere Run.
The Stars had just three birdies on the day as they trail the leaders British Columbia by 19 shots. Early in the final round Friday the Stars had crept within five shots of second-place Kaiser University. In fourth behind OCU is Dalton State, led by Ponca City native Sydney Hermann, who was tied for fourth individually.
MaKayla Tyrrell moved a spot up for a tie in second. She sits three strokes off the leader Hannah Ulibarri of The Masters (Calif.) who is at six over. Tyrrell had two of the team’s three birdies on the day as she birdied 14 and 18. Tyrrell has scores of 71-75-76-222 with her round one score of 71 being tied for the best score through the first three rounds.
Maddi Kamas moved up a round-best 33 spots into a tie for 14th shooting a round of 72. Kamas’ 72 score was the second-best score on the day behind Hoi Ki Lai of Keiser University (Fla.) who was the only golfer to go under on the day. Kamas birdied hole 16 as she par or bettered every hole but two. Kamas has shot rounds of 78-80-72-230.
Natalie Gough and Jamie Welsh sit tied for 41st. Welsh has put together rounds of 79-78-81-238 and Gough has supplied a 78-77-83-238.
Paige Wood has delivered scores of 76-87-80-243 through the first three rounds.
Round four teed off just after 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
