OSU signee advances to final round of Augusta National Women’s Amateur
AUGUSTA, Georgia – Oklahoma State women’s golf signee Maja Stark has advance to Saturday’s final round of the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Stark is among the 30 players that survived the cut to advance to Saturday’s final round, which will be played at Augusta National, home of the Masters Tournament. The field is currently led by defending NCAA champion Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest, who shot 68-71 (-5) 139 over the event’s first two days.
Stark, a native of Abbekas, Sweden, followed up Wednesday’s opening round 2-under 70 with a 3-over 75 on Thursday to wrap up play at the Champions Retreat course in a tie for 11th place at 1-over 145.
Stark currently is ranked the No. 30 amateur in the world. She finished seventh at the World Junior Girls Championship in September in Ottawa, Canada, and represented Europe in the PING Junior Solheim Cup. As a member of the Swedish National Team, she helped her home country win gold at the European Ladies Team Championship this past summer.
The Augusta National Women’s Amateur is in its first year, and features the top 72 amateur golfers on the planet.
Another Cowgirl signee, Isabella Fierro, also participated in the event, and finished in a tie for 37th after rounds of 73-76 (+4) 149. Fierro is ranked the No. 35 amateur in the world, and will join Stark in Stillwater in the fall.
NBC Sports will carry all of the action of Saturday’s final round in Augusta from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT.
