Oklahoma freshman Kaitlin Milligan has been named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for February, the conference announced Wednesday.

Milligan joins Julienne Soo (September) and Hannah Wood (November) as Sooners who have earned Golfer of the Month honors this season. Oklahoma is the first school in conference history to have three different golfers earn Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month recognitions in one season.

The freshman took second place in the Westbrook Invitational in late February with a 54-hole total of 199 (-17) – the lowest individual tournament score in OU history. A Norman native, Milligan is the first Sooner golfer to produce a sub-200 score in a three-round tournament.

Milligan opened the event with a 62 (-10) in the first round, marking the lowest 18-hole score in program history (previous low was 65), the best in Big 12 history and the lowest in NCAA Division I women’s golf this season. Over the three rounds, Milligan totaled 20 birdies and only three bogeys.

Her performance led the Sooners to their first tournament win since 2014.

Oklahoma has two tournaments remaining in the regular season, starting with the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., from March 16 to 18. The Sooners have finished in the top four in the past three Clover Cups, including a second-place showing last season.
