Past champs, loaded field to vie for 114th OGA State Amateur at Oklahoma City Golf & CC

The 114th Oklahoma State Amateur Championship will be determined next Monday through Thursday at Oklahoma Golf & Country Club. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 100s each day as players battle through 18 holes of stroke play Monday and then up to two rounds of match play Tuesday and Wednesday to determine two finalists who will meet Thursday morning.
Two past champions are in the field in Jamie Voegeli of Tulsa, who won in 2020 at The Patriot in Owasso, and Ian Davis of Edmond, who won in 2022 the last time the event was at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
Defending champion Will McDonald of Oklahoma City, who won last year at Cedar Ridge CC and also in 2023 at Southern Hills CC, will not be playing while attending to a family health issue.
What the 2026 field of 100 does offer after stroke play qualifiers were held at Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow and Lincoln Park in Oklahoma City, is a raft of talented collegians and some of the state’s best mid-amateurs including Blake Trimble, who won the OGA Mid-Amateur crown last week at Battle Creek in Broken Arrow.
Golfers will play 18 holes of stroke play Monday, after which the field will be cut to 32 for match play.
The University of Oklahoma will be represented by Cameron Cheek of Owasso and Preston Albee of Choctaw while Oklahoma State will counter with Collin Bond of Norman and Ben Lathrop of Oklahoma City. The new University of Tulsa program will be represented by 2025 OGA Stroke Play champion C.J. Phillips of Edmond while Sam Morris of Tulsa represents Oral Roberts.
Talented collegians now playing out-of-state include Grant Gudgel of Stillwater, William Hennessy of Tulsa, Benton Manly of Tulsa, Ben Stoller of Owasso and Cooper Watson of Lawton, to name just a few.
Many of the state’s best mid-amateurs qualified. Led by Davis and Trimble, it also includes Harley Abrams of Tulsa, Mike Gotcher of Broken Arrow, Mike Hearne of Yukon, Kyle Hudelson of Oklahoma City, Tyler Hunt of Tulsa, JR Hurley of Norman, Heath Myers of Kingfisher and Luke Phillips of Edmond, almost all of whom have won OGA events in the past.

Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club is a 1929 Perry Maxwell design with a restoration by Tripp Davis is 2019. Superintendent Nathan Neumann is known for maintaining some of the best course conditions of any golf course in Oklahoma. Director of Golf Tim Fleming, long one of the state’s most respected and skilled playing professionals, has announced to the club his impending retirement at the end of 2026.
