OWASSO, Oklahoma – Oklahoma golfers, remember when you check in for your rounds Friday through Monday to keep in mind the families of our servicemen and women killed or disabled defending our freedoms.

Patriot Golf Day, the main fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, will look to top the nearly $6.1 million in donations it raised in 2016. All money raised during this critical grassroots campaign will fund educational scholarships for the family members of fallen or disabled U.S. service members.

“For the last 10 years, golfers across the country have been instrumental in helping honor the sacrifices of our military families through education,” said Major Dan Rooney, PGA professional and founder and CEO of Folds of Honor. “Every year we are overwhelmed by the generosity and support for our cause from the golf industry. We could not advance our mission without our PGA professionals and avid golfers around the country.”

This year, for the third time in event history, a true American icon, Jack Nicklaus, has joined Folds of Honor as honorary chairman of the annual fundraising event, Patriot Golf Day.

“I am honored to be named the Chairman for this year’s Patriot Golf Day,” Nicklaus said. “I never had the privilege to serve our great nation, but I am passionate and committed to any initiative that allows us to recognize, assist and support the men and women of our military, who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. When we can use the game of golf as the vehicle to give back, it becomes even more meaningful to me. That’s why I feel blessed to be involved with projects like American Lake Veterans Golf Course, or partnering with great organizations like Folds of Honor and the PGA of America, with its PGA HOPE program.”

The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association.

“The PGA of America is proud to support great organizations, like Folds of Honor,” said Paul Levy, president of the PGA. “Utilizing the game of golf to help those in need is one of the many reasons we work in this industry. It is the least we can do to support those who keep us safe and protect our freedom every day.”

“Patriot Golf Day continues to grow in its success and we are so encouraged by the continuous support of the golf industry,” Rooney said. “This Labor Day weekend, we look forward to golfers around the nation participating in Patriot Golf Day and supporting the men and women who serve our country.”

If you are interested in joining the mission to empower the lives of deserving military families with educational opportunities, you can find participating courses and make donations at PatriotGolfDay.com as well as FoldsofHonor.org. PGA Professionals who host an event and submit funds to the Folds of Honor Foundation will receive 2 MSR credits.
