Phillips, Johnson share lead in SCS PGA Professional Championship

Tracy Phillips of Tulsa and Jett Johnson of Quail Creek Golf & Country Club in Oklahoma City were the only two golfers in a 72-man field of regional professionals who broke par at the Oaks Country Club Monday in the first round of the South Central Section PGA Professional Championship.

Phillips and Johnson each shot rounds of 1-under 70 while Jarod Lundy of Belmar Golf Club in Norman and Austin Peters of The Territory in Duncan shared third place at even-par 71.

The field plays a second round Tuesday morning. After 36 holes the top 15 players will play a third round to determine the championship as well as six qualifying spots to compete in the 2025 PGA Professional Championship scheduled April 27-30 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. In that event the pros will have a chance to qualify for the 2025 PGA Championship, much as Phillips qualified this year for the 2024 PGA Championship.
