Robert Streb of Edmond North made a run at the Barracuda Championship this weekend but a slow start Sunday left him in a tie for fifth with 35 points in the modified Stableford scoring system. A win would have lifted him into the Top 125 on the Fed-Ex Cup points lift and into this weekend’s PGA Championship. Now at 142 he is in danger of missing the playoffs.
Other players with local ties in that event included Alex Noren (OSU) tied for ninth, Kristoffer Ventura (OSU) tied for 19th, Wyndham Clark (OSU), Kevin Tway (OSU and Edmond) and Peter Uihlein (OSU) all tied for 35th, Rhein Gibson (Edmond and Oklahoma Christian) 60th and Michael Gellerman (OU) tied for 61st. Bo Van Pelt (OSU and Tulsa) missed the cut as did Hunter Mahan (OSU).
In the Fed-Ex St. Jude Invitational, Abraham Ancer of OU and Rickie Fowler of OSU tied for 15th. OSU stars Matt Wolff tied for 49th and Viktor Hovland tied for 59th.
The Champions Tour returned to action last weekend with The Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, Mich. Former Sooner Glen Day tied for 10th, while Scott Verplank of OSU and Edmond tied for 68th.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, veteran Tag Ridings who grew up in Tulsa shot 7-under to tie for 11th in the Pinnacle Bank Championship. Taylor Moore of Edmond tied for 33rd, Grant Hirshman of OU tied 54th and Jordan Niebrugge (OSU) finished 62nd. Tyrone Van Aswegan of Oklahoma City University missed the cut.
On the LPGA Tour, former three-time WOGA state champion Yujeong Son of Norman bogeyed her final hole, one of four bogeys on the back side, to miss the cut by a single shot in her LPGA Tour debut in the Drive On Championship in Toledo, Ohio. She shot 7-over for 36 holes.
The All Pro Tour returns to action this week with an event in Fort Smith, Ark., followed by the Bravado Wireless Real Okie Championship Aug. 11-14 at Muskogee Golf Club.
