Rogers State wins St. Mary’s Invitational at The Dominion

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Rogers State men’s golf team overcame a one-shot deficit to come away with a four-stroke win at the St. Mary’s Invitational after a 293 in round two Tuesday at The Dominion Country Club. 
All five Hillcats recorded at least two birdies in the final round, improving the team score by 13 and moving past nationally-ranked Western New Mexico for the team’s second tournament title of the season and eighth in program history. The team closed the event with 22 birdies leading the 13-team field by four.
 
Senior Tanner Alder turned in the best finish for RSU, tying for fifth despite not counting in the final round team score with a 76 for a two-day total of 149. Sophomore Henning Hogmoen and freshman Alex Marsh also earned spots inside the top 10 finishing tied for seventh at 150. Hogmoen matched the low round of the day for the Hillcats with an even-par 72 behind three birdies while Marsh fired a 2-over-par 74.
 
Hagen Barmasse showed the biggest improvement for RSU carding an even-par 72 in Tuesday’s final round shaving seven strokes off his score from round one. The junior birdied three of his first five holes and closed the front nine with the Hillcats’ only eagle of the tournament going out in 3-under-par 33.
 
Junior Mark Healy counted in the team scoring firing the lowest round of his career with a 75 in round two finishing at 155. The Sandwich, England native put an end to his tournament with a birdie on the par-five 18th.
 
Dayton Cargill from NCAA Division III UT Tyler claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par 70 in round two moving up from 10th place following day one.
 
RSU continues its spring season March 9-10 with its fourth-consecutive tournament in Texas at another event hosted by a Heartland Conference school at the St. Edward’s Invitational held at Onion Creek Club in Austin.
